Welcome to Year 2! My name is Miss Makin and I am the class teacher. Our class teaching assistant is Mrs Casey. We love working in year 2 and we will ensure to work hard to support all of the children in the class to make progress and enjoy learning.

In Year 2, we aim to create a happy, stimulating environment where your child feels valued, safe and motivated to learn.  Every year is very important and Year Two is no exception.  We have high expectations and a desire to see each child achieve their potential and make exceptional progress.

A key aspect in the progress of your child is the relationship between home and school.  We are looking forward to working with you and helping your child develop to their full potential.

Year 2 Summer 1 weekly timetable 2024

Reading

In year 2, reading books will be set online weekly on Collins eBooks. Your child’s book will match the book that they are reading in school. It will also be at the correct reading level for your child based on their phonics ability.

Please encourage your child to read for 5 minutes every day. Developing fluency is significant in KS1 therefore reading the same book numerous times will support with this skill. Reading should be enjoyable so please encourage your child to read for pleasure at home as we do in school. Visiting the local library could also promote a love of reading for your child.

My Happy Mind

This academic year we have started the My Happy Mind programme. This consists of teaching the children about how their brains work and helping them to build resilient, balanced and happy minds at home and school. We complete each session as the children come into school on a Monday morning, this helps to begin the week positively.

Water bottles

Please supply your child with a water bottle so that they can have a drink of water whenever they wish.

Names in clothes

Please ensure that your child’s name is clearly written in all items of clothing.

P.E.

Please ensure your child has a P.E. kit in school that consists of burgundy school PE shorts, a pale blue school PE t-shirt and pumps.  We have P.E. on Monday  and Wednesday each week. Children are allowed to come to school in their PE Kit, but this must be the school PE Kit and their school jumper.

Home/school folders

Each Monday your child will bring home their homework, reading books and spellings. Homework needs to be return for the following Monday and spellings will be tested on the Friday. Reading books need to be returned on their Guided Reading Day.
