I hope your child is going to have a wonderful year this year!

In Year 1, I aim to create a happy, stimulating environment where your child feels valued, safe and motivated to learn. We are going to be learning lots and having lots of fun this year.

 Phonics

Your child will be taught phonics daily. This will help your child learn to become a confident reader and prepare them for their phonic screening tests. Sounds will be sent home weekly, please support your child by practising their sounds.

 Homework

Your child will learn a lot in Year 1 but it is important that this learning continues at home to ensure their progress. Homework is just as important as the work we do in school and consolidates what we do during the week.  It is vital that homework is returned on Friday and is completed to the same high standard we expect in school.  Phonics is taught every day in Year 1 and the children will also read every day. Please continue to read at home with your child to improve their fluency.

 P.E.

Please ensure your child has a P.E. kit in school that consists of shorts, a t-shirt and pumps.  We have P.E. on Monday and Tuesday each week.

  Home/school folders

Spellings will be given out each Monday and the children will be tested on Friday.  Each Friday your child will bring home their homework. Homework needs to be returned by the following Friday and reading books need to be returned each day.
