Welcome to Year 2!
My name is Mrs Lindsay and I am the class teacher. Our teaching assistant is Miss Lloyd. We both thoroughly enjoy working in Year 2 and we are committed to supporting every child in the class to make strong progress and develop a genuine enjoyment of learning.
In Year 2, our aim is to provide a happy and stimulating learning environment where each child feels valued, safe and motivated. Every school year is important and Year 2 is no exception. We maintain high expectations and a desire to see each child achieve their potential and make exceptional progress.
Our PE days this year are Tuesday and Thursday. On these days, children may come to school wearing their school PE kit.
New reading books will be issued weekly, along with spelling lists that are sent home each Monday.
Spelling tests will take place every Friday.
Homework will be sent home on Fridays and will be linked to the week’s learning; it should be returned the following Thursday.
A key aspect in the progress of your child is the relationship between home and school. We are looking forward to working with you and helping your child reach their full potential.
Year 2 Weekly timetable 2025-26Reading
In year 2, reading books will be set online weekly on Collins eBooks. Your child’s book will match the book that they are reading in school. It will also be at the correct reading level for your child based on their phonics ability.
Please encourage your child to read for 5 minutes every day. Developing fluency is significant in KS1 therefore reading the same book numerous times will support with this skill. Reading should be enjoyable so please encourage your child to read for pleasure at home as we do in school. Visiting the local library could also promote a love of reading for your child.
My Happy Mind
This academic year we have started the My Happy Mind programme. This consists of teaching the children about how their brains work and helping them to build resilient, balanced and happy minds at home and school. We complete each session as the children come into school on a Monday morning, this helps to begin the week positively.
Water bottles
Please supply your child with a water bottle so that they can have a drink of water whenever they wish.
Names in clothes
Please ensure that your child’s name is clearly written in all items of clothing.
